Entertainment in the Boston Area
When it comes to entertainment in the Boston Area, there are seemingly endless things to get into. Whether you’re looking for a night of traditional Irish music at a local pub, to spend your Saturday at a wine tasting, to take in an hockey match or baseball game, or to simply enjoy a fantastic dinner and drinks with friends - you’ll find it all here in Boston. Perhaps one of the most entertaining series of events in Boston is the wealth of festivals that are held each year. Both Bostonians and visitors enjoy a wide array of festivals ranging from wine and food to comedy and music. As local Boston Realtors® who live, work and play within the communities we service, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite festivals; the ones we’re looking forward to in 2014. Let’s take a look.
Best Boston Festivals of 2014
Harvard Square Chocolate Festival: Held every year in January, the Harvard Square Chocolate Festival was founded in 2011 and features walking tours of the square to highlight the history of chocolate and show how fine chocolates are made. Workshops, a chocolate scavenger hunt, Dining in the Dark Chocolate Style and Mystery Cafe©’s Death By Chocolate are other events that happen during the festival.
Chinese Lion Dance Parade: The Chinese New Year is celebrated with the annual Chinese Lion Dance Parade in Boston’s Chinatown. The annual event is free to the public and the restaurants along the path provide parade goers with plenty of traditional Chinese New year dishes like dumplings, noodles, and smoked meat.
The College Comedy Festival and Beanpot College Improv Tournament: Set in the city of colleges, the tournament pits 10 amateur comedy teams from various area colleges against each other to win the prestigious Beanpot trophy. Tickets range from $10-$18.00 depending on the night and round of the tournament.
The Harpoon St. Patrick’s Day Festival: Located at the Harpoon Brewery, the festival traditionally takes place a couple of weeks before St. Patrick’s Day and kicks off the season with corned beef and cabbage, Irish dancing, and plenty of green beer. Also check out the annual Harpoon Octoberfest.
Boston Magazine’s Taste: A night of exceptional food all under one roof, this annual event coincides with the magazine’s food issue and celebrates all that Boston has to offer. Every year a new location is picked to host the event. Previous locations include the Mandarin Oriental and the Museum of Science.
Berklee’s Beantown Jazz Festival: Typically held in September, this is a free festival with a next generation jazz theme. The amount of entertainment at this festival for free makes it one of the best events of the year.
